But for today, our topic will be slightly different. Usually, we would be answering car insurance-related questions. However, in this article, we will focus on something that we deeply value – and that is the subject of climate change.
We believe it is part of Perla Insurance’s mission to help protect the valuable assets of all our customers. We believe making positive changes and leaving a good mark in our environment helps us to better fulfill our mission. When we help to care for the environment, we lessen the impact and damage that can be caused by typhoons, flood, and landslides to the valuable assets we help to protect.
We believe in greener, healthier methods of survival. Especially since our environment is in desperate need of healing from our carbon footprints.
We will even talk about our guide that we are using to make healthy and good choices. All of these will indeed have a positive impact on the environment. We urge our audience also to adapt the points given in our guide in their lives.
Our Corporate Advocacy
Mother Nature is also a stakeholder and we have taken the protection of our environment as our Corporate Social Responsibility.
In this period where climate change is creating havoc on our weather and the environment, our company chose to take care of this earth as our way to lessen the effects of climate change in the destruction of private property and lives.
Our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) aims to embrace the accountability of the Company’s endeavors to encourage, promote and implement programs that are pro-environment taking in to account the well-being of its consumers, stakeholders, employees and the community.
We will endeavor to contribute to the environmental preservation and protection through initiatives that will ensure the conservation of our environment like tree planting, clean-up drives and other similar undertakings.
Our Undertaking
There are two specific programs and activities we wish to focus on our thrust for environmental protection. One is Tree Planting, which is our response to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) calling to participate on the National Greening Program (NGP). This seeks to reforest billions of trees on million hectares on government selected lots. The Company actively participated on the said program in line with our commitment to the community for environmental protection.
Second is the Drainage Clean Up Drive, which is also part of our environmental protection and preservation advocacy. The company, in coordination with DPWH and Local Government of Paranaque, will sponsor a particular drainage located at the Las Pinas-Paranaque Critical Habitat Ecotourism Area in Freedom Island Trail for clean-up and de-clogging campaign.
We have chosen to focus on planting more trees and cleaning up all the dirt in our grounds that may pollute the bodies of water where we get our drink. Being located in all the different parts of the Philippines, we have involved each office to do their share in their own communities.
Our Corporate Experience
In one particular activity, all employees woke up early to collect and pick trash on a Saturday morning. This is not usually what anyone would consider an ideal start of the day. But this experience proved to be an eye-opening one. It opened up the awareness of how important our contribution is in preserving our environment by making the right choices in our life.
Every candy we take in, every sachet we purchase to use as shampoo or lotion, every plastic we use when we buy our fish and groceries – these were the items we had to pick that morning.
And we saw how these items poisoned our waters and killed all the animals that lived there and how they clogged our drainage to cause flooding and hardships to the lives of the people in our communities, including ourselves.
It is hoped that this is not just a photo-op opportunity to show that our company does have a CSR but more so that there is a change in mindset and choices each Perla member makes in our everyday lives.

Make the Right Choices
Our guide helps to make us aware of some choices we can make in our lives:
- Buy and use less things, especially those that use plastic wrappers and styrofoam
- Buy and use less processed foods that use plastic as packaging, eat more fresh fruits and vegetables instead that are better for our health.
- Conserve water and all resources we use.
- Don’t use plastic as much as possible; buy and use reusable bags.
- Don’t buy and use bottled water; it is not good for health and the environment.
- Buy bigger containers for shampoo, personal products, and food items that can be reused, never in sachets.
- Throw any trash in garbage containers, not anywhere else.
- Finally, remember that whatever you do to our environment, we end up doing to ourselves. And each choice we make, no matter how small, counts.
